*NEW* Youth Theater Program

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Bridgewater has announced a new Community Youth Theatre Program. The Youth Theatre program will give children the opportunity to perform in musical productions or participate in behind the scenes activities. The program’s first musical will be Beauty and the Beast Jr. and the performance will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Auditions for the musical production are open to all children in the community in grades 5-8 and will be held at the JCC on Thursday, September 12 at 4:00 PM. Rehearsals will be held at the JCC on Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 PM. The production will be directed by Samantha Gelnaw Lang, a local actress who appeared in Silver Lining Playbook with Jennifer Lawrence. The actor fee to participate in the Beauty and the Beast, Jr. is $300 Discounted JCC Member Fee or $325/child actor.

A “Behind the Scenes” class is open to kids in grades 3-8.  The 10-week production class will meet at the JCC from 4:30 – 6:00 PM beginning on November 5. The class will include the creation of set pieces, costumes and props. It also includes instruction on becoming a stage hand, usher, or an AV tech. The class fee is $175 Discounted JCC Member Fee or $200/Child.

According to Samantha Gelnaw Lang, “Theatre is a great way for kids to discover their talents and passions for performance.  Beauty and the Beast is a children’s classic, and I’m excited to be a part of this production and the JCC’s new theatre arts program.”
