Special Needs Swimming Skills Program

Ages 3 – Adult

This program consists of 30-minute one on one private swimming lessons for individuals with special needs ages 3-adult. Lessons are taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors with a background working with the special needs population. The instructor will tailor lessons to student and parent/guardian individual goals. Topics to be covered in this program include independent floatation with and without a device, how to control breathing, kicking, basic paddling, front crawl, backstroke and jumping/diving into the pool. Participants will also receive special attention and instruction that may help develop competency in the water as well as improve overall coordination, strength, endurance, a range of movement, as well as social and attending behaviors.

Lessons are sold in packages of (6) 30-minute lessons for $130.
The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC is an approved agency for the Supports Program Service.

JCC Rising Tide Swim Team 

The JCC Bridgewater Rising Tide Special Olympics Swim Team is a volunteer organization that seeks to introduce individuals with special needs to the wonders of swimming. As part of Special Olympics New Jersey, Somerset County Area 10 we compete in three swim meets throughout the season: county, area, and state. We seek to provide an enriching and welcoming environment for swimmers with special needs ages 10, and up. Athletes participating in this program should have a basic knowledge of swimming and be able to comfortably swim one length (25 yards) of freestyle and one length (25 yards) of backstroke.
