We are living in a time where all of our social interactions have moved to a virtual space.
While we are adjusting and trying to make our days feel normal, one thing at the JCC has stayed constant — Miss Jamie is everywhere! If you don’t know her by name, you certainly know her by her cheerful singing at the front desk. Miss Jamie has been working at the JCC for over 15 years, starting off in the Blaustein Early Childhood Center as the music teacher, to working as the Front Desk Receptionist.
Jamie has made the best of her time at home by staying busy with the JCC community and her family. Her son and husband may not appreciate being woken up by her sing-a-longs every Thursday, but the children of the Blaustein Early Childhood Center and their families certainly love it. Interacting with all the children and seeing their smiling faces is something she looks forward to the most.
She is grateful that her music is also able to keep her connected to the J Cares Interns. She joins them every Thursday morning, along with their Mentors and families. Jamie takes time to schmooze and catch up with fellow community members over coffee three times a week by logging in to “Coffee Chats” zoom sessions.
Morning activities are almost always followed by a very crucial nap. With her energized spirit, she spends the afternoons gardening at a community garden with her son Luke, taking care of her perineal flower garden in front of her home, calling JCC members, writing out tribute cards, and walking her two dogs, Lia Sage and Milo Pinto Blackbeard. Of course, we could not forget to mention all the music and educational videos Jamie has created at home for the children…with the help of her family.
When I spoke with Jamie, I asked her to share a positive aspect of her “working from home” situation. She replied that she loved having time to share with her husband and son, and going on lots of walks with the dogs. Most importantly, she loves seeing many families being brought together, walking outside and playing with each other.
